The MacClean app
MacClean scans, analyzes and cleans entirely on your Mac. File names, paths, file contents, photos, browsing history and scan results never leave your computer. The app has no ads and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
Chat Cleanup reads only the names, sizes and dates of files in the WeChat, QQ and WeCom data folders, and makes thumbnails on your Mac. It never reads chat databases or message contents, and nothing is uploaded.
The app goes online only in these cases:
- Activating, validating and deactivating a license: it sends the license key, your Mac’s model and computer name (so you can tell your devices apart in the activation list), a randomly generated instance ID and the MacClean version.
- Checking for MacClean updates: it asks thulem.com for update information, including the current version number.
- Checking other apps for updates (only when you use this in App Manager): it contacts the update URLs those apps’ developers publish, the same request those apps make themselves.
- Security checking whether certificates are revoked: macOS contacts Apple’s certificate status service, the same check it makes when you open an app. Everything else is read locally from system settings, permission records and signatures.
The website and purchases
- Orders: we store your email, plan, payment method, payment code and order time to match payments, issue licenses and help you find your order. We don’t send marketing email, and we never sell or share it.
- Payment: you pay inside WeChat Pay or Alipay. We only see the amount received, the note you wrote and the payer nickname the platform shows us, never your payment account details.
- Access logs: the server briefly records IP addresses to prevent abuse (such as limiting how often orders can be placed) and to count downloads.
- Browser storage: the site uses no tracking cookies. Your language choice and orders created on this device are kept in your browser’s local storage, readable only by your browser. Clearing site data removes them.
Your rights
Email us anytime to see, correct or delete order information about you. To handle refunds and prevent license abuse, we keep the minimum fields needed for licenses already issued.
